Bruce Oldfield, a favourite designer of the late Princess Diana, is the front runner to create Kate Middleton’s bridal dress, according to an Irish bookmaker.

Paddy Power, which has odds of 1-3 on Oldfield becoming the designer Middleton backs to design her dress, has suspended betting on the designer due to a recent surge in big-stake bets of more than £500.

A Paddy Power spokesman told reporters: “We saw this pattern of royal wagers with the venue and the date and they both proved correct. Although we didn’t expect a betting plunge on the dress designer to happen quite so soon, when the stakes changed from fivers and tenners to hundreds of pounds, it appears as though the cat is out of the bag.”

Oldfield has created outfits for Samantha Cameron, the wife of Prime Minister David Cameron, and actress Sienna Miller and pop star Rihanna.

Fashion pundits have placed their bets on a British designer creating the dress. Frontrunners include Stewart Parvin, who has a | royal warrant, or Phillipa Lepley, who dresses Sloaney brides, Amanda Wakeley and whose glamourous creations are a favourite among high-profile brides.
