Asos has snapped up former Sainsburys’ HR director Jo Butler as its new chief people officer.

Butler will join the fashion etailer on April 21 from energy services firm Mitie, where she has acted as group HR director for two years.

Butler has previously held senior HR roles at food-to-go chain Itsu and Sainsbury’s, where she worked across the UK and China between 2011 and 2015.

Butler will join Asos’ executive team and report to chief executive Nick Beighton in her new role.

Her appointment is part of Asos’ ongoing endeavour to diversify the expertise of its board and follows the appointment of Robert Birge as chief growth officer in December.

The fashion retailer, which reported a 20% increase in group revenue to £1.1bn in the four months to December 31, is still seeking a chief strategy officer and chief commercial officer to complete its board.

Chief executive Nick Beighton said: “Jo’s depth of experience delivering successful, transformational people strategies for listed companies will be invaluable to our ever-evolving, fast-growing business. I look forward to welcoming Jo and the ideas and energy that she brings with her to Asos.”

Butler added: “I’m incredibly excited to be joining Asos, returning to the sector I love and to be given the challenge of driving forward a people programme that will embed a high-performance culture right across the organisation.”
