Asda-owned fashion business George has poached top Marks & Spencer executive Nick Jones to be its merchandising, supply and sourcing director.

He joins George after a 15-year career at Marks & Spencer, where he rose to become director of sourcing then director of home, beauty and gifts.

In an internal George email seen by Retail Week, George chief executive Andrew Moore said he was “delighted” with the appointment. He said Jones’ experience, “along with his proven ability to lead and motivate teams and deliver sustainable change” made him the ideal candidate.

Moore continued: “This appointment will support our ambitious growth plans and I am therefore personally very much looking forward to working with Nick as part of the George board. I know he will significantly contribute to the delivery of our strategy for growth.”

Marks & Spencer executive director of general merchandise Kate Bostock said: “Nick has made a significant contribution to the business over the last 15 years and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the future.”

Per Una trading director Andrew Skinner will assume Jones’ Marks & Spencer responsibilities on an interim basis.
