George at Asda has kicked off a school uniform price war, offering a complete uniform for £4.75.

The retailer said also said it was the first retailer to offer the same price on schoolwear whatever the age of the child.

The £4.75 uniform, which will only be offered for ten days, would cost £15.25 for a 16 year old in Tesco and £21.50 from Marks & Spencer, according to Asda.

“You don’t pay more for bigger adults clothing, so it is simple – customers should not pay more for compulsory school clothes,”  said George managing director Anthony Thompson.
