Fund co-ordinator Family Fund chief executive Marion Lowe said: 'We are extending the deadline for donations until 6pm on Wednesday November 29. There has been a surge in donations and we don't want to miss out on anyone's generosity - large or small.
'All letters and funds need to be in our hands and in the bank before then. Let us do our very best to bring these families some Christmas cheer.'
The process of distribution is still being determined, but it is thought that funds will probably be delivered through registered agents. The fund's aim is to have this completed by December 18.
Farepak managing director Nick Gilodi-Johnson has apologised to more than 150,000 customers that lost millions when the savings club collapsed without compensation last month.
Gilodi-Johnson said: 'What has happened to Farepak and its customers is nothing short of a tragedy. I feel its loss with immense sadness.'
The managing director said his family would be contributing to the Farepak Response Fund.
