Homewares retailer Fabric Warehouse has gone into administration, becoming the latest victim of the credit crunch.

The Rotherham business, which sold fabrics, ready-made curtains and other homewares, traded from 31 stores across the UK.

Neil Bennett, a director at Leonard Curtis, has been appointed as administrator and has sold 10 Fabric Warehouse stores to Calderia Retail, as well as the stock from a further 16 stores.

Calderia will also take on the responsibility of completing customer orders in 21 stores and work is under way to complete the remainder of customer orders where deposits have been paid to ensure deposits are not lost.

Bennett said: “A further store has been sold to Remnant Kings Central. We are negotiating the sale of four further stores, which we will keep open for the time being, with the aim of maximising the return to creditors and saving as many jobs as possible.

“Unfortunately, in the current economic climate, it has been necessary to close the remaining stores.”

Fabric Warehouse was bought by The Furnishing Place from the Homestyle Group in 2004. In the year to April 2007, it had a turnover of about£25 million.
