Extreme Group has drafted in former Snow + Rock marketing director Steve Hazell to lead its foray into retail, and posted a surge in online sales.
The TV and Internet business for surf, skate and snow enthusiasts has said it is eying potential retail acquisitions.
Hazell will head any retail chain once it is bought.
Extreme's e-tail operation, Extremepie.com, reached break-even last year, two years after launch, when it generated sales of£1.8 million, up 48 per cent year on year.
Extreme chief executive Al Gosling is targeting sales of about£3 million this year.
Transaction volumes in the first few months of this year have grown at about 50 per cent month on month.
Future growth will come from expanding the coverage to Europe, where there are plans to develop separately branded sites for clothing.
Gosling said that other areas of brand development include drinks and 'youth-oriented' mobile phones.
