Wright spent eight years with Tesco, holding a number of senior marketing positions including UK director for brand marketing, UK director for stores and non-food marketing and, most recently, as marketing director for Tesco, Ireland.
Thorntons chief executive Mike Davies said: 'Peter has considerable experience and track record in both retail and FMCG marketing. We believe that his expertise will help us further strengthen Thorntons and facilitate the delivery of our sales and marketing led strategy.'
At the end of its first quarter, Thorntons sales rose 11.6 per cent for the 14 weeks to April 14, after a difficult start to the year prompted the company to make additional investment. Store sales increase 2.3 per cent, as the retailer benefited from enhanced products and further investment in its seasonal gift ranges.
