Ex-Sainsbury's format director joins Homebase

Homebase, the GUS-owned DIY retailer, has appointed Ian Jones as retail stores director.

Previously director of formats at Sainsbury's, he replaces Peter Jones, who has retired. He left Sainsbury's earlier this year following restructuring its HQ.

Since the arrival of Paul Loft as managing director in the spring, Homebase has continued with its mezzanine strategy to deliver additional sales space. Loft plans to have mezzanines in 200 of Homebase's 275 stores.

Homebase is the number three DIY player behind B&Q and Focus Wickes.

Parent GUS was due to announce interim results as Retail Week went to press.
