HMV filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators last night, following a turbulent time for the retailer after posting an £82.1m pre-tax loss last year. Retail Week plots its sales and profits over the last decade.
HMV last year plunged into the red, reporting an £82.1m pre-tax loss, compared with a £3.3m pre tax profit in the previous year. Profit peaked in 2005, delivering £136.2m.
Sales have steadily been declining since 2005 when sales peaked at £1.9bn, before dropping to £1bn last year.
