Game has acquired Spanish online platform SocialNAT as it continues to drive the expansion of its eSports and events division.

The entertainment specialist has purchased the eSports business from the Social Electronica Sports Company for an undisclosed sum.

It comes almost a year after Game acquired games festival organiser Multiplay for £20m. The firm focuses on online gaming services and eSports and also organises the Insomnia festival, where gamers gather to play against each other in tournaments on their computers and consoles.

Game said SocialNAT will “help to develop” its eSports and events division. The platform, which has more than 150,000 registered users, organised a number of eSports championships at last year’s Madrid Games Week, including the qualifying rounds of tournaments for the popular Call of Duty and Fifa games.

Game added that the acquisition will help it drive the growth of its eSports business in Spain and allow it to offer “new experiences and services” to its customers.

Managing director of Game Spain Pablo Crespo said: “Game is firmly committed to delivering the best experiences across all areas of the interactive entertainment and video games business.

“ESports present one of the most exciting developments in the industry and the acquisition of SocialNAT will help to accelerate our plans in this area, particularly in Spain.”
