Electricals brand moves online
So farewell then, Dixons - at least so far as the high street is concerned. The famous name, which made legendary entrepreneur Lord Kalms his millions, is moving exclusively online. From May, owner DSG International will convert the 190 shops to the new Currys.digital fascia, taking Currys' store numbers to 550 and making it the group's sole UK electricals chain.

DSG chief executive John Clare said an expanded product mix in converted stores, including appliances and electricals, is expected to drive sales in outlets under pressure from rising rents and rates.

Lord Kalms, now DSG's president, said of the change: 'There's a certain nostalgia, but that's minuscule compared to the benefits. This idea is brilliant and necessary.'
