Maplin employees who face losing their jobs after the retailer’s collapse may find new roles at rival Dixons Carphone.
James tweeted: “Very sorry to hear Maplin is in administration. It is famous for its expert & friendly team, and this is a v. tough time for colleagues.
“We always need great people who love customers and tech & I hope we can offer some Maplin people opportunities with Dixons Carphone.”
Maplin collapsed into administration on Wednesday, putting 2,500 jobs at risk across 217 stores and at its head office.
Administrator PwC has kept all of Maplin’s stores open while it attempts to find a buyer.
Maplin staff have been paid their February wages and will continue to be paid for any work done while the business is in administration.
Unlike Maplin, Dixons Carphone has been performing well. UK like-for-likes rose 3% over the Christmas period. Sales of electricals rose 1%, against strong comparatives the previous year.
