Dixons Carphone boss Seb James is anticipating a “huge” Black Friday and predicts that the annual event will only grow “stronger and stronger”.

Speaking to Retail Week at the group’s Power of One conference, James said Black Friday is “a winner”, and the retailers losing faith in the event were the ones “not giving it any welly”.

James said: “We own it. We plan a whole year ahead and the deals are stronger this year than they’ve ever been.

“Plus, we’re the only business that has deals right across the stack,” he adds.

“Some shops just put deals on the crap that’s been lying around, but with us you’re going to find quality and branded goods.”

Dixons Carphone holds a week-long Black Friday event, dropping new deals into the mix each day and adding the bulk on the Friday.

James said: “We’re set up to do 80,000 orders that day, plus a huge number of deliveries over the next two weeks. We think it will be huge.”

Last year the retailer claimed Black Friday was a record trading day for the company.

James predicts that OLED TVs will prove particularly popular this year, and that Black Friday will only grow “stronger and stronger” as the years go on.
