Electrical retailers are banking on audio purchases, wearables and kitchen gadgets being high up consumers’ wishlists this Christmas.

Cranking up the volume

Retailers are hedging their bets on audio purchases to be big this Christmas, with Currys PC World putting two multi-room speakers (from Sonos and Samsung) in its top ten Christmas predictions. While Argos is placing a lot of focus on digital in its Christmas offer, it’s still managed to tap into the trend for records with the launch of the Crosley Cruiser Retro Turntable (£79.99). Still, the retailer hasn’t forgotten its digital fans – Argos is selling the Alba Bluetooth Speaker (£9.99), providing partygoers will the ability to listen into tunes from any from any Bluetooth-enabled device.

Snap happy for adventurers

Despite the mobile phone often replacing the camera as the picture-snapper of choice for today’s holidaymaker, Argos is tempting thrillseekers with a Kodak SP360 extreme action camera 355/9596 (£338.99) this Christmas. It claims to be the world’s first ever 360 degree camera, enabling adventurers such as skydivers and divers to capture their moment from any angle. The camera can be controlled wirelessly from iOS and Android devices.   

The wearable boom

Demand for wearables shows no sign of abating and retailers are keen to bolster their tech offer in this area during the Christmas period. Argos will be offering FitBit HR, which constantly monitors the wearer’s heart rate for five days without the need for an electric charge. Daily stats and call notifications can also be easily viewed on the display. Argos is also hedging its bets on the Jawbone Up 3 (£129.99) being a strong seller this Christmas. This fitness tracker features multi-sensor technology, giving fitness fanatics personalised insight – such as measuring resting heart rate, level of sleep and calorie intake – giving owners a full insight into their lifestyle.

Currys PC World has included two wearable gadgets – the Jawbone Up and Fitbit Surge – in its Christmas predictions list. “They make ideal presents due to their compact size and affordability and are expected to be another big hit this coming Christmas,” the retailer added.

It’s not Christmas without customers yearning for an Apple product, is it? In store for fans of the slick technology brand is the latest version of the Apple iPad Air 2 16GB (£399.00), set to be stocked by Argos amongst others. The tablet will be Apple’s lightest yet, weighing just 437g and measuring only 6.1mm. It’s expected to come with finger print recognition. 

The rise of the healthy foodie

Thanks to the BBC series of Bake Off, the trend for baking shows no sign of slowing down. Currys PC World believes its KitchenAid’s classic Artisan Stand Mixer will remains on consumers’ Christmas lists, while it’s also banking on the Nutribullet, which it will offer a  silver edition exclusively this year.This year customers can also opt for the premium, more powerful Nutribullet Pro - this offers an additional 300W of power versus the standard model giving shopper’s even more choice ahead of the traditional New Year ‘detox’.
