US electricals giant Best Buy opens its doors to the public for the first time on Friday and will mark the occasion with four days of activities over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

The retailer said it will offer “plenty of amazing deals, competitions and entertainment” to showcase the “breadth and depth of Best Buy’s offer with a focus on music, movies and games” when it opens in Thurrock at 7am on Friday.

Best Buy will offer deals including promotions on the Samsung 32” LED HD TV  and the Toshiba 32” HD-ready LCD TV, as well as a World Cup themed special offer.

Tomorrow’s opening day will feature entertainers including face-painters and breakdancers, while Saturday will be music-themed.

On Sunday shoppers will be treated to an Avatar-themed event, to celebrate the release of the blockbuster film on DVD, with make-up artists on hand to re-create characters from the film. Monday’s celebrations will be geared towards video games

Chief executive of Best Buy branded operations Paul Antoniadis said: “Our focus is on helping customers to make buying technology simple, exciting and interactive.  We hope that customers get down to our store early on Friday to be sure that they can take advantage of the deals on offer and experience everything that Best Buy has to offer for the first time.
