AO has recorded a double-digit year-on-year increase in TV sales as the men’s FIFA World Cup drives demand.
According to data from AO.com, TV sales were up 23% year on year throughout June as England continued to progress in the World Cup.
Millions also tuned in for the 2am kick-off between England and Mexico on Monday, which saw England progress to the quarter-finals in a match with Norway to be played on Saturday.
The retailer says it is expecting more interest from fans looking to upgrade their home TV and audio/visual setups in the coming days.
Due to some of the kick-offs occurring late at night or early hours of the morning, an AO TV survey found 38% of football fans would rather watch matches on a high-quality TV at home over being in a stadium.
AO.com TV expert Nick Bunce said: “With lots of England’s games kicking off at awkward times, many fans have been choosing to watch from the comfort of their own homes rather than heading out.
“Iconic events like this are a fantastic reason for people to invest in their TV and AV set-ups at home, and that’s why we’ve seen massive demand for TVs as well as sound bars and other products too.
“With England now through to the quarter-finals, we expect demand to keep growing ahead of Saturday’s clash with Norway.”
