Discount grocer Aldi is to enter the budget tablet market with the launch of Lifetab E7316.
Aldi joins grocery giant Tesco, which has had great success with its £120 Hudl tablet, launched in September. Tesco is developing a second version for 2014. In October, Argos launched its MyTablet device for £100.
Aldi has partnered with electronics firm Medion to release the tablet, which launches on Sunday and will be priced at £79. It is thought only limited numbers of the tablet will be released.
The device comes with 7-inch screen, a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, low-resolution at 1024 x 600 pixels, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory as well as a front and rear camera of 0.2 and 2.0 megapixels respectively.
The Lifetab operates on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean system, and has a USB host function as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
