Online auction site eBay is planning to launch a full-priced fashion website next year as it makes greater strides into the category.

The site, which is scheduled to launch in spring 2014, is expected to sell a mix of high-end high street brands as well as luxury designer brands.

The name of the site is not yet known but will be powered by eBay.

It is understood that the business has begun discussions with high street retailers Reiss and Karen Millen, as well as designer brand Marc Jacobs, according to Retail Week’s sister magazine Drapers. However, the details, including how retailers will be paid, are still being ironed out.

Industry insiders have said the design of the site is what will make it unique as rather than start from desktop first, eBay is designing it initially for mobile, before adapting the design for other platforms. It is thought the site will be content rich.

EBay did not respond to requests for comment.
