Tesco star to take over as chief executive
DSGi has poached Tesco operations development director John Browett to take over from John Clare as chief executive.

At Tesco, Browett is responsible for the retailer's operating model, both in the UK and internationally. Before that he was Tesco.com chief executive, having been with the grocer since 1998 when he joined as group strategy director.

DSGi chairman Sir John Collins said: 'He brings a wealth of retailing experience to the group from Tesco. His involvement in creating Tesco's online operations and more recently in driving improved customer experience and operational efficiencies will ensure that DSGi can continue to capitalise on its strengths for the benefit of our customers, employees and shareholders.'

Browett said: 'I am looking forward to getting to know the customers, staff and management team. We have some great opportunities ahead that will build on the strong positions that have been established within the UK, internationally and on the internet.'

Pali International analyst Nick Bubb said: 'Browett is widely regarded as one of the rising stars of the Tesco management team. His background in strategy, online development and international operations gives him a lot of the skills needed to get a grip on the DSGi portfolio.'
