Retailer pleased with results, but bracing for a cut-throat Christmas
Currys and The Link spearheaded Dixons Group like-for-like sales rises in the 28 weeks to November 13. The electricals retailer and mobile phone chain grew like-for-like sales by 9 per cent and 8 per cent respectively, compared with the Dixons and PC World chains, both at 3 per cent. Total UK like-for-like sales rose 6 per cent, while total group like-for-like sales increased by 5 per cent.

Dixons chief executive John Clare said: 'The rate of sales has slowed in recent weeks and we are cautious about the outlook for consumer expenditure on high-ticket discretionary purchases across the balance of the year, particularly in the UK. As always, performance for the whole year will be significantly affected by trading over the important Christmas period. We are prepared for an aggressive trading environment.'
