Value retailers are competing to secure the best of JJB’s closed stores after the sports retailer collapsed into administration last week.

B&M Bargains, 99p Stores and Home Bargains are all thought to have made offers on stores by the deadline for first round bids, which is thought to be Friday.

It is understood Sports Direct is also interesting in taking on further stores, in addition to the 20 it acquired immediately after JJB hit the wall last week. It also acquired JJB’s stock, the Slazenger Golf brand licence as well as its warehouse in Wigan.

Wren Kitchens is also said to be interested in the former JJB stores.

Property firm Prime Retail is handling the sale of the stores on behalf of administrator KPMG.

Meanwhile Landlords of the closed JJB stores could lose about £60m in rent, rates and services if they cannot find new tenants, according to research ommissioned by The Times and undertaken by Jones Lang LaSalle.
