Sales at John Lewis department stores rose 3.8% last week, when fashion performed best.

Fashion sales advanced 7.6% year on year in the period to June 15, when women’s accessories were the star performer on the back of an 11. 3% rise.

The home category was ahead 4%, helped by a 17.1 % spike from the gifts range ahead of Father’s Day.

Electricals and home technology was down 1. 3%, however, despite sales of large electrical goods climbing 8%.

At grocery stablemate Waitrose, weekly sales slipped 2.6% versus a warmer comparative week last year.

For the John Lewis Partnership as a whole, sales edged down 0. 3% to £218.7m.
