Selfridges has laid claim to being the first department store to open its Christmas shop this year, more than 140 days before the event.
The retailer is seeking to cash in on tourists purchasing decorations and presents for the big day. The 3,000 sq ft shop opened in its Oxford Street flagship on Monday and it has a ‘journey to the stars’ theme.
It stocks over 60,000 baubles, 150 lights, 120 crackers and 1,250 cards and wrapping paper options. Selfridges’ Christmas shop will double in size to 6,000 sq ft in the autumn.
