One of Frasers Group’s non-executive directors is to leave after just a few months in the post.

Anouska Kapur, a partner at the law firm Child & Child, joined the board of the department store and sports goods giant at the end of September.

The retailer, which also owns Sports Direct and is controlled by controversial tycoon Mike Ashley, said then that her “expertise in real estate will be a vital asset to the board as we continue to invest in the high street as part of our elevation strategy”.

It added that she would also bring independent legal expertise, “which will be invaluable in maintaining our regulatory compliance and appropriate standards of corporate governance”.

However, Frasers has disclosed that Kapur has chosen to step down from the board “to avoid any actual or perceived conflicts of interest with a third-party professional services firm”.

It said the change “again shows the company’s commitment to good corporate governance”.
