Debenhams is to spark a final burst of discounting on the high street in the crucial week before Christmas, with discounts of up to 50 per cent over five days.

From tomorrow until Sunday December 21, the department store chain will offer discounts of up to 50 per cent in stores. It is the fourth pre-Christmas Sale by Debenhams since last month.

Speculation has also mounted that Marks & Spencer will launch another pre-Christmas Sale event on Thursday. However, sources familiar with the situation downplayed that prospect but it is understood that M&S will unveil a further raft of tactical promotions later this week.

“These new offers give frugally festive shoppers the last chance to bag a bargain before Christmas,” said Debenhams deputy chief executive Michael Sharp.

Discounts in stores and online will include:

  • 10 per cent off all cosmetics and up to 50 per cent off beauty gifts

  • 50 per cent off selected women’s coats, knitwear and partywear

  • Half price on St George by Duffer, 20 per cent off men’s Red Herring and Rocha John Rocha.

  • Men’s shoes on full Sale

  • Men’s gifts will have 20 per cent slashed with up to 50 per cent off selected lines

  • 50 per cent off selected girlswear lines and children’s coats and 10 per cent of baby and toddler

  • Half price selected Ultimo lingerie including 30 per cent off Freya and Fantasie

  • 20 per cent off all watches with some lines halved

  • 50 per cent off Radley bags, 10 per cent off handbags

  • 10 per cent off jewellery and footwear Sale

  • 20 per cent off home and 10 per cent off electricals
