UK inflation reached a 12-month high last month as falls in food, fashion and fuel prices eased, according to the latest ONS figures.

Inflation rose 0.3% in the year to January, as measured by the Consumer Prices Index. It marked the third consecutive month of small increases after the CPI grew 0.1% in November and 0.2% in December.

Despite prices rising, the slight increase has come about due to slower falls in prices.

Food and non-alcoholic drink prices slipped 0.6% between December and January as opposed to a 1% fall a year earlier.

Clothing prices decreased 3.4% in the same period, compared to a fall of 3.9% in the same two months a year ago.

Fuel was the main contributor to the slight rise as prices fell at a lower rate than they did a year ago.
