Electricals retailer plans more frontline staff
DSG revealed today it plans to axe 250 managerial jobs at its Currys electricals chain, to make way for more than 1,000 additional frontline staff.

During a review, the electricals retailer identified 250 departmental managerial posts in its out-of-town stores that were no longer needed. Additional customer-facing posts will be created in these stores to give customers greater access to service staff.

In a statement, the group said: 'This means better advice, greater convenience and a more efficient service. To deliver these improvements, we are examining all aspects of the way we run our stores, including the management structure.'

The group employs 28,000 people in the UK and will be looking to redeploy as many as possible of the affected staff.

A spokesman said the process was driven by investment and was not about cost reduction.

Consultation on the plans began this week.
