From June 28, the retailer will offer customers free product return via home delivery and at all its 500-strong network of stores. Customers buying new electrical products will be able to return their old models to the store, regardless of where they bought them. Home delivery shoppers can have their equivalent old product collected upon delivery.
The service will operate according to the specifications of the WEEE directive, which is due to come into force on July 1. WEEE prescribes strict controls on the recycling or refurbishment of electrical goods.
Currys has agreements in place with a network of recycling contractors to ensure safe, WEEE-compliant disposal of all its collected goods.
The company said in a statement that it recycles thousands of its products each year already. Its parent, DSGi, which operates similar recycling schemes through its businesses in Scandinavia, said the service will also include free recycling for home-delivery TV buyers at PC World.
