With Santa taking residence in The Mall and the reindeer penned at the entrance, the day was incredibly successful. It attracted almost 30,000 shoppers, which is an increase of 3 per cent on last year.
Attractions such as brass bands and carol singers are helping to increase footfall this Christmas. This December, retailers throughout the centre are trading very well. We are expecting sales to be up year on year, particularly because we have an extra Saturday this year and our larger stores such as Debenhams, Argos, Ottakar's and Superdrug are all reporting strong trading.
Bestsellers to date are fashion boots and party shoes, evening outfits, toys, music and fashion accessories.
With many stores going into early Sales, the tills will hopefully be ringing well into the new year.
