Up 27 per cent week on week
On the last Monday before Christmas, footfall nationwide was 27 per cent up on last week. However, as the final shopping week before the big day began, shopper numbers were down 5 per cent on this time last year.
The latest figures from research agency FootFall reveal that numbers are lower than last year but a FootFall spokeswoman said: 'Although figures are still lower than last year, we are expecting to see continuing week-on-week improvements each day this week, culminating in Christmas Eve.'
She added: 'The build-up for the final shopping week before Christmas has now begun.'
