House of Fraser concessionaires are up in arms after being sent letters by the department store retailer asking for detailed information about their finances.

House of Fraser has implemented a health check of its concessionaires asking them to supply information such as their stock position and the strength of their banking covenants.

One concessionaire said the letter might have been aimed at ensuring the retailer did not further squeeze already struggling concessions with changes to supplier payment terms.

It is understood that, while existing concessions are paid after between 30 and 60 days, new concessions to the business may face 90-day payment terms.

The retailer first introduced altered payment terms last year, with concessions asked to contribute to marketing spend.

Another concession said it was clear that House of Fraser, which went into a pre-Christmas Sale last week, was underperforming and may be forced to continue to discount as a result, upsetting some concession partners.

House of Fraser declined to comment.
