Comet staff have urged Ministers to investigate the collapse of the electricals retailer and the role played by former owner OpCapita.

Staff have signed an online petition demanding a Parliamentary investigation into private investment firm OpCapita and its managing partner Henry Jackson’s conduct since buying Comet in February, The Sun reported.

The petition states: “The promise was made that OpCapita would turn this business around.

“Yet all that’s happened is that we’ve been stripped down piece by piece until the company isn’t self-sustainable any more.”

Staff complained to the paper that the stores are “becoming a clearing house for anything the administrators want to get rid of” with cookers and potentially even bikes rumoured to be being sold.

The petition has been supported by 935 people. However it is hosted on a US website so may not be able to trigger a House of Commons debate.
