Comet to open huge distribution centre for North

Comet will open a multi-million pound tailor-made distribution centre next summer to cater for its Northern stores.

The 460,000 sq ft (42,730 sq m) centre at Skelmersdale, Lancashire, will enable Comet - part of Kesa - to handle three times as much volume as its existing warehouse 12 miles away in Goldborne. Skelmersdale replaces Goldborne and the overspill warehouse at RAF Burtonwood.

The centre will be one of three for bulky brown and white goods, but will handle almost 50 per cent of this stock.

'Because this centre is a tailor-made facility, it will give us greater operational efficiencies,' said Comet supply chain development controller James Thorne.
