BRC recognises her contribution to consumption
The British Retail Consortium last night crowned Coleen McCloughlin its Celebrity Shopper of the Year.

McCloughlin, the fiancée of England footballer Wayne Rooney - who is also nicknamed the 'queen of chav' - scooped 38 per cent of the public vote.

BRC director-general Kevin Hawkins said: 'Not only does she spend a significant amount of money on clothes, but she has also created a style of her own.'

The teenage Liverpudlian, famous for her garish sense of style and penchant for designer labels, has raised the profile of independent fashion retailers and department stores alike.

The celebrity shopper award is designed to recognise the impact and contribution celebrities can make to the retail industry.

Final placings for the Celebrity Shopper of the Year Award 2005 were:

  1. Coleen McCloughlin

  2. Abi Titmuss

  3. Sienna Miller

  4. Bono

  5. Victoria Beckham

  6. Jamie Oliver

  7. Ruby Wax

  8. Trinny & Susannah

  9. (equal placing) David Beckham and Sharon Osbourne
