Clinton Cards to run 'special occasion' ads

Clinton Cards boss Clinton Lewin is considering running advertising geared to special occasions, as part of its GMTV weather sponsorship.

The retailer would use airtime to flag up dates in the calendar that might otherwise be overlooked by card buyers.

'The idea is it will link to occasions such as Father's Day or a 'secretary day' to encourage card buying,' said Seymour Pierce analyst Rhys Williams.

'It's a good idea and viewers at that time - women aged 20 to 40 - are part of the target market,' he said.

However, he warned that the card market was susceptible to incursion by supermarkets.
