Classic toys and games such as Lego, Sylvanian Families and Monopoly are set to be big sellers once again this Christmas, along with a toy puppy that can be taken for walks and an electric guitar.

The Toy Retailers Association, which unveiled its list of 12 Christmas ‘dream toys’ this week, said that kids’ versions of adult items would be big sellers, including a £59.99 videocam and grooming salon that caters to toy hamsters instead of humans.

It also tipped Lego’s City Airport kit, a Fireman Sam playset and Monopoly Revolution, a circular version of the classic boardgame, as top sellers this year.

Girls are likely to be asking Father Christmas for a Sylvanian Families Motorcycle and Sidecar set. For boys, dolls based on the film Toy Story 3 a Star Wars light sabre and a Doctor Who sonic screwdriver are set to be popular.

Gary Grant, managing director of toys retailer The Entertainer and chairman of the Dream Toys selection panel, said: “The technological advancements used in many of the toys we reviewed this year were simply amazing and demonstrate how forward thinking manufacturers are. In what has been a challenging yet extremely positive year for the toy industry, it is also refreshing to see the industry’s faithful brands continuing to perform well to keep classic toys in the hearts of children everywhere.”
