DSG International will revert to being called Dixons Retail after shareholders approved the plans at the electricals group’s AGM today.

The company ditched the Dixons name from its corporate identity five years ago, reflecting its shift to being an international, multibrand business.

However, the new name never really caught on, especially among suppliers, and chief executive John Browett has said it makes sense to go back to the much more widely recognised Dixons name, even though Dixons - now online and in airports only - only comprises a small proportion of the group’s sales.

The change will not affect the company’s trading fascias.
