The supermarket giant’s 90-second advert, created by Wieden+Kennedy London, revolves around a festive song written by Doc Brown and sung by members of the public and Sainsbury’s staff.

Actor Ricky Tomlinson and Kermit the Frog also make cameo appearances in the ad, which was aired for the first time tonight.

Sainsbury’s said the move marked “a departure from the ‘Christmas special’” of its previous two campaigns, which featured comedian James Corden and Mog the cat respectively.

The grocer’s head of broadcast communications Laura Boothby said: “Living well has been at the heart of our advertising all year and there is no better time to celebrate that than at Christmas.

“There are so many rituals and moments that make each person’s Christmas special and we wanted to feature as many of these as possible – and all set to a catchy festive tune.”

The ‘Every Bit of Christmas’ song, which features lyrics about everything from Brussels sprouts to novelty socks, will be made available to stream on Spotify and a karaoke version will also be available to view on Sainsbury’s YouTube channel.
