How retailers are faring in Manchester
The majority of retailers in Manchester were holding off early discounting yesterday.

Just a handful of retailers were on Sale when Retail Week visited. These included three retailers on King Street: Kookaï, Jones the Bootmaker and Hobbs. Both Kookaï and Hobbs were offering 50 per cent discounts. On Market Street, Qube was offering 70 per cent off and Clarks was on Sale at 50 per cent.

Fashionable King Street was fairly quiet, with few shoppers, while Market Street, which houses mainly mid-market multiples, was bustling. The recently opened Urban Outfitters on Market Street was very busy, as were TK Maxx and Primark, just up the road.

The redeveloped Arndale Centre had a steady flow of shoppers, mostly congregating in its anchor store, Next. Meanwhile, Selfridges and Harvey Nichols were both busy, seemingly taking away some trade from House of Fraser on Deansgate and Debenhams on Market Street, which were both fairly quiet.

The Triangle shopping arcade opposite the Arndale was fairly quiet, except its Muji store, which was busy.
