Carphone Warehouse chief executive Charles Dunstone is expected to reveal tomorrow that he is considering plans to divide the retail and broadband group he founded nearly two decades ago.

Dunstone has appointed advisers to explore hiving off the business' broadband and phone operation - Talk Talk - in to a separately listed vehicle.

Dunstone wants to boost the company's valuation but he is expected to warn that no split of the£1.3 billion company is imminent because of stock-market turmoil.

Dunstone, who owns 32.6 per cent of Carphone Warehouse, which is worth£424 million, is expected to remain on the board of both companies following a demerger.

The move follows Dunstone's decision to sell 50 per cent of Carphone Warehouse's retail division to Best Buy for£1.1 billion in May, shaking up the European electricals sector.

It will also revive speculation that Dunstone is preparing to sell the broadband division.

Carphone Warehouse is scheduled to report its interim results tomorrow.
