Retailer expects upturn in customer numbers
Carphone Warehouse will hire 1,000 sales staff to improve customer service as the mobile phone retail landscape changes in the UK.

The disposal of Phones 4U by the Caudwell Group is expected imminently, while The Link stores could become a stronger opposition to Carphone Warehouse following DSGi's sale of the chain to O2.

However, Carphone Warehouse believes it could benefit from the consolidation as its rivals attempt to sort out their propositions under new owners.

A Carphone Warehouse spokeswoman said that research for the retailer revealed it could expect an upturn in customer numbers in the coming months, which contributed to its decision to kick-start the recruitment drive.

Charles Dunstone's business will increase its store staff by 12 per cent to serve in new outlets and reinforce employee numbers in existing ones.

Earlier this week Dunstone admitted that the business was struggling to cope with demand for its TalkTalk broadband package.

The retailer was preparing to give a first-quarter trading update as Retail Week went to press.
