Carpetright signs Allders concession deal

Carpetright has clinched a deal with Allders to open concessions in the department store group's outlets.

Carpetright chairman and chief executive Lord Harris of Peckham said he was 'very pleased' with the arrangement, which will provide an alternative route to market for the retailer, which trades mainly from out-of-town sites.

The roll-out follows a successful pilot in four Allders stores. Carpetright will now enter a further 12 Allders stores by Christmas, and 17 more next year.

The carpet giant will bolster Allders' traditional mainstay of homewares. New boss Terry Green has focused on the home offer since completing an overhaul of the own-brand fashion stable, and is converting Allders at Home shops into small-scale department stores.

Carpetright is also making progress with its Benelux business. It acquired market leader Carpetland NV last year, and is now believed to be turning a profit, ahead of analysts' expectations.

Meanwhile, Green is also looking for success abroad, and plans shop-in-shops flogging customers a really big- ticket purchase - Spanish villas. 'There will be a specific concession that deals with selling holiday homes in Spain,' confirmed Green.
