Luxury retailer and brand Burberry has bolstered its senior management team with the creation of the roles of senior role vice-president, customer insight, and chief technology officer.
Steve Sacks has been hired as senior vice-president, customer insight, and joins from Lloyds Banking Group where he was director of customer strategy and insight.
John Douglas, formerly Burberry’s chief information officer, has been named chief technology officer and will now report to the retailer’s chief executive, Angela Ahrendts.
Burberry said of Sacks’ appointment: “As Burberry continues to enlarge its global retail footprint and engage a fast-growing online audience, it is acquiring increasing amounts of valuable customer data.
“Steve will direct the development of a dedicated team, systems and processes to develop insights into these physical and digital interactions, enabling further understanding of customer behaviour and creating a platform from which to drive future growth across the company. “
The retailer said of Douglas’s new responsibilities: “This change reflects the central role that Burberry’s technology strategy is playing in the evolution of the company.
“John has overseen the establishment of an innovative global IT organisation that partners internally and externally to deliver advanced technology solutions for major Burberry projects.
“Under John’s stewardship, Burberry’s technology infrastructure has become a key enabler of global brand communication and momentum. “
