Boss of Sports Connection set for MBO deal

Sports Connection managing director Paul Stern is understood to be planning a management buy-out bid for the business, which went into receivership earlier this month.

Simon Bentley, former Blacks Leisure chief executive and now non-executive chairman of Sports Connection also confirmed his potential interest.

He said: 'At this point I'm not involved, but I won't rule it out. It depends what I may be approached about.'

The closing date for offers for the chain was Monday. Blair Nimmo, KPMG head of corporate recovery in Scotland and joint receiver, said he has received a number of expressions of interest for the business, but is going back to parties to firm up details.

Stern would not comment.
