Eight buyers at Borders UK are to leave the retailer following a review of the buying team structure.

The book specialist began a consultation period in June, when it planned to make posts redundant and asked buying department staff to reapply for their positions.

Two book buyers and one non-book buyer decided not to take part in the process and will leave at the end of September. Three other buyers have been offered jobs elsewhere and two DVD buyers have taken redundancy and will leave at the end of the month.

Borders UK senior fiction buyer Michael Jones has been given the added responsibility of acting books category manager, replacing Caroline Mileham who left the business recently to join Play.com.

Jones will be supported by a team of 13.

Borders UK chief executive Philip Downer said: “This process completes the fundamental reorganisation of the store support office (SSO), in anticipation of the implementation of new systems across Borders. The team at the SSO has been both patient and professional.”
