Baker hires retail operations chief
Boots the Chemists has poached Tesco's Scott Wheway to head up its retail operations team.

Wheway has been with Tesco for 20 years and is currently chief executive of the Japanese operation. He will replace interim retail director Alex Gourlay, who is to remain on the executive team and is charged with developing long-term growth initiatives.

Wheway will report directly to chief executive Richard Baker when he joins in April, at the start of the new financial year. Baker said: 'Wheway has had excellent hands-on experience at all levels within Tesco. He has lived and breathed the success that is delivered from being a customer-led organisation and will add a great deal to our management team.'

Boots is expected to announce interim results on Thursday, October 28.
