Boots launches plastic Giftcard

Health and beauty giant Boots is binning paper for plastic with the launch of electronic Giftcard vouchers.

The wallet-sized Giftcard works like a debit card and is similar to a successful scheme operated by Debenhams. The cards can be loaded with up to£500 cash and are being marketed by Boots as the perfect gift solution for people who are difficult to buy for, carrying the tagline 'for someone special.'

A Boots spokesman said the switch to cards made the lucrative gift voucher market appear 'more contemporary.' The cards are being introduced in stores at the end of this month.

Boots chief operating officer David Kneale said: 'Giftcard provides an improved product for customers and simplifies processes for our stores.'
