Supermarket giant Tesco has developed #pullacracker, a light-hearted Twitter game to reinforce itself as a Christmas gift retailer.
The competition launched last Saturday and gives customers a chance to win prizes from the retailer. Twitter users tweeting using the hashtag #pullacracker, and a follower who replies, are automatically sent a unique link to a page on which a virtual cracker is pulled between the two of them. The animation reveals who has won. Each game played produces a winner, with prizes ranging from chocolate bars to ereaders.
Prizes can either be collected in store with a unique voucher, or existing customers can add the prize to their online basket.
The app is being promoted across Twitter and via Tesco’s Facebook page. It’s the first time Tesco has run a give-away via Twitter.
The retailer is offering 50,000 crackers to its customers. Nearly 18,000 crackers have been pulled so far.
