No casualties reported

Fire fighters battled to save a New Look store on Oxford Street as a major blaze broke out last night.

The fire - believed to have been started in the flat above the store - broke out at about 7pm yesterday evening.

A New Look spokesman said: ‘The fire alarms sounded at New Look’s Oxford Street store adjacent to Oxford Circus. All customers and staff were immediately evacuated.’

The Fire Brigade said it was forced to send more than 100 fire fighters in an attempt to bring the blaze under control.

There is no news of any injuries, but nearby buildings had to be evacuated.

New Look added: “The authorities are investigating the source of the fire and we have no further details at present.”

The Marks & Spencer store adjacent to New Look is not open today. An M&S spokeswoman declined to give details on the extent of the damage, if any.
